Identify the equipment
Record the manufacturer, model, serial number and nameplate details. For spare parts, include the part reference and equipment revision where available. Appearance alone does not establish compatibility.
Record the operating context
Describe changes in noise, vibration, pressure, flow, leakage or power consumption. Include when the symptom occurs and whether it followed a process, control or maintenance change.
Plan safe investigation
Inspection and service work must follow site safety procedures and the equipment manual. Isolation, electrical work and lifting require appropriate competent personnel. Do not dismantle or energise equipment merely to complete an enquiry.
Keep a useful history
Previous repairs, replaced components and operating readings can help distinguish recurring problems from new ones. Service scope and part compatibility should be confirmed before procurement or work begins.
This technical article provides general educational information. Final selection, installation and maintenance require appropriate professional review and current equipment documentation.
