HYDROVAR® is an intelligent controller that adjusts the pump performance to demand.
Controls the speed of a standard IEC motor by converting constant voltage and power line frequency.
It can be easily fitted to any new pump system or existing pumps using the quick and easy 'clip and play' mounting clamps.
Pump systems in individual applications are very often oversized and therefore consume much more energy than necessary.
With energy savings of up to 70% resulting from part load operation – depending on energy costs and pump operating hours – the typical payback time is less than 2 years. A motor running at 80% of maximum speed uses 48% less energy and produces significantly fewer carbon emissions.
- Available in 1.5 to 22 kW 1-phase or 3-phase versions, pump or wall mounted.
- The wall mounted version fits any standard IEC motor.
Optimised cooling of the HYDROVAR, depending on the power and speed of the pump, is guaranteed by a motor-driven fan. - Easy start-up, setup and operation with a simple start-up menu that guides you through all these steps. A new feature is the larger display.
The device does not require the use of an external control panel. - No water hammer. Stable pump operation at part load also prevents water hammer that typically occurs during start/stop operations of constant speed pumps.
- Lower starting current. High peak current is prevented by regulating the load time at start-up, as in a soft start system.
- Multiple pump control is standard, allowing 1 to 8 units to be operated. Communication with the central control unit can also take place via the RS485 interface, and each HYDROVAR is equipped with a separate microprocessor that operates independently in the event of a fault. The unit is equipped with the Modbus and BACnet protocols as standard.
- The pump is quieter because it runs at a lower speed. Since its capacity is adjusted to the actual demand and the control is according to the system curve, the pipes and valves
also generate less noise. - Less wear and tear and reduced mechanical stress are the result of the low speed of the pumps during operation, and thanks to the soft start function, there is no additional load when starting the device.
Energy savings in HVAC systems
Energy is the largest operating cost of any pump; this is where the greatest potential savings can be made. The HYDROVAR works with the system to ensure that it operates efficiently. This intelligent variable speed drive controls the pump, precisely adapting its operation to the user's current demand. Compared to a system without regulation, the HYDROVAR saves up to 70% of the energy used (tested by TÜV Austria, vogw0312-PIR-ZR). Smooth regulation at optimum operation not only increases efficiency, but also extends the service life of the system components and contributes to reduced maintenance costs.
Available control elements include constant pressure, system curve, constant flow or external signal dependent. In addition to these functions, the HYDROVAR can perform operations typical of the most advanced computerized control systems, such as:
stopping the pump(s) at zero demand; stopping the pump(s) in the event of a water supply failure; dry running protection; standard second required input function enabling switching between two different pressure setpoints via an external switch; sensor failure and overtemperature protection for the inverter and motor protecting the pump and motor against undervoltage and overvoltage.
Other features include: automatic test run; automatic cycling of pump unit lead and lag; inverter fault signal memory; operating hours counter; and two level password protection if required.
